Our imperative Healthy Children and Families focuses on issues relating to health and offers information to help citizens understand the trends in NC. Families and individuals of all ages thrive in North Carolina. From early childhood well past retirement, our citizens are mentally and physically fit, with no significant differences in health across racial, ethnic, or geographic lines. Our most vulnerable citizens — children and the elderly — are surrounded by a supportive family and community.
Please help us improve this section by adding your ideas on how to improve this information and how the state can help with health needs.
Why doesn't North Carolina try to provide health care or health insurance for residents that cannot afford insurance?

According to a September 23, 2006, News and Observer article article "Cultivating a Fresh Start" (by Marcy Smith Rice) 35,684 couples divorced in North Carolina (according to the State Center for Health Statistics).
Since this is such a significant issue in NC can the Progress Board add a report that shows trends in divorce and compare it to the region and the US? This is an alarming problem and it would be helpful to see information on the issue and ideas on how to deal with it.
